Mr. Mimms, Mrs. Mercado, and the fashion design students delivered their stockings to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Frisco.

The fashion design classes do more than just make clothes. By using their talents, they made an active difference in our community.

This past holiday, they donated stockings to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Frisco.

“I reached out to the hospital wanting to do a charity project with my fashion kids, and they specifically came back and wanted to do a holiday theme,” fashion design teacher Lyndsey Mercado said.

“When she first told us about this project I was actually pretty excited. I thought it was so cute that we were going to make these stockings and the babies were going to go inside of them and take really cute pictures,” senior Leslie Mota said.

Not only were some of the students excited to donate, but they also think it is important to give back to the community.

“I think it’s a good thing that we’re doing because in the long run when we see the babies in the stocking it will be completely worth the holiday spirit,” senior Melissa Castillo said.

“I think it’s important to give back to the community in this kind of way. A lot of times around the holidays you’re busy with your own things like buying presents or planning parties and stuff, that you kind of forget there’s new moms in the hospital or something, like these new families being created,” Mota said.

This has changed the way that the students think about their community.

“It showed me that even when I didn’t plan to do something like that it will become a bigger thing and it will escalate to me wanting to do more volunteer service and helping of others,” Castillo said.

Many of the fashion design students hope this experience will inspire other students to help their community.

“I think it’s good for people to see the small things that you do can make a bigger impact to others to see,” Castillo said.

“I do think this will inspire students to give back to their community because Christmas is about giving and not getting and there is always a little joy in giving,” said sophomore Emma Cornwell.
