Moore Tornado

A family of six, scrambling for safety as the debris-filled wind picked up around the community and the nearby school.

Moore, Oklahoma, the town of one of the largest tornadoes known.

Harley, the family black Labrador was a laid back dog for the days weather was calm. That day, Harley was anxious. When the family saw how anxious he was, they knew bad weather was upon them, and soon.

As multiple funnels formed around the Metroplex, kids were pulled out of the school with concrete walls and steel doors. Emerson and her siblings wondered if their mom was going to leave them at school where it was safe, or bring them home to the bathroom with the hazardous skylight for safety.

Sirens announcing the bad weather, the family of five scrambled to the bathroom with her mattress they grabbed from her room.

By the time the family is underneath the mattress in the bathroom, weather forecast explains funnel clouds were right above the house. Emerson checked the weather on her Ipod, seeing if it was going to get worse as time passed. The funnel above the house decided to take a left turn headed to Moore, Oklahoma. The tornado picked up speed and widened along the way towards Moore, leaving debris and strong winds in the neighborhood Emerson and her family lived in.

By the time the tornado had taken hits across the area, meteorologists declared the tornado as an F5, one of the largest tornadoes to be seen.

As the tornado came and left Moore, Oklahoma, it claimed 24 lives and over 300 houses. Emerson and her family were okay but without power for the next two days after the disaster. Memorials were held for the lives lost, as buildings were in repair and homes were being rebuilt. Emerson and her family now live in Texas, where tornadoes are not as common.
