What’s for lunch?

The options students have for lunch can prevent a dull moment at the lunch table.

During second and third period most students are eagerly waiting for the lunch bell to ring.

But in the midst, not many stop to think about how the food in our cafeteria shows up in the first place.

There are some students who do notice the effort to make lunch enjoyable.

“I feel like they try to make you like the food here,” sophomore Shellymar Villegas said.

There’s more to how the lunch lines work than you would think.

The food doesn’t show up with little thought.

There is a child nutrition department filled with directors and dietitians who decide what is distributed through our lines.

Menu items are chosen based on federal guidelines and what is considered the most beneficial for students’ health.

Cafeteria Supervisor Effrain Morales said offering a power meal is important to make sure that students get a full meal everyday.

“In order for students to make it a meal they have to get a fruit or a vegetable. So, that’s why we have so many offerings. So we don’t run out in case students come in and they really want to make it a meal,” Morales said.

Our school has six lines to choose from, which is four more than any middle school.

We have a wide range of options, from pizza, stir-fry, deli, and many more.

“Well, some other schools, they don’t have the same kinds of food we have. So, I’m grateful that we have pizza, and we have Chinese, and we have nachos, because I love nachos!” Villegas said.

But, for some students like Will Milestone the move to Frisco was a change for the better.

“In Wisconsin you had the choice between whatever was on the menu that day, or peanut butter and jelly.  That’s really all your choices,” Milestone said.

Although going to lunch is a routine part of the day, the options students have can prevent a dull moment in the lunch line or at the lunch table.
