What happens next for course enrollment

Next year’s underclassmen who want to make changes on next year’s elective options have until April 17 to submit them to their counselors.

“After the verification’s were turned in on Feb. 17, the counseling center has until March 6 to have all changes entered,” Head Counselor Patti Wilson said.”However, students will not see these changes until we open up Home Access for viewing next years course selections, and that will occur the first week of April.”

Since counselors are involved with the registration process through February, they ask that students with questions to email their counselor. Students can still sign up online for a meeting, but during the registration process, students must expect delays.

”Registration is very time-consuming for counselors for several reasons,” Ms.Wilson said. “We are on a deadline to have numbers to the district, meaning the number of students selecting each course offered at Heritage. Because of staffing needs and ordering books and materials for the courses, the district needs those numbers by early March.”

Counselors met with incoming freshman the last week of January and underclassmen through February to go over their future schedules.

“Several years ago, we began meeting with each student individually,” Ms.Wilson said. “Because we felt that it gave us an opportunity to get to know our students better and to discuss college and career options as those relate to course selections.”

The counselors also want to reach out to students for more than career choices.

“We also feel that students will ask questions in an individual meeting that they might not otherwise ask if in another situation,” Ms.Wilson said.

Students have until April 17 to make changes to electives. Course level or programs will be the only options to change after April 17. Students should email their counselor if the have further questions.
