Board members met on Dec. 8 to resolve the zoning issues in both Wakeland and Lone Star, with the addition of Reedy High School.

“The method for removing the remaining number of students has not been determined (until this board meeting),” Internal Demographer Dennis Brent said. “One proposal was to take next year’s ninth and tenth graders from the Trails and Meadow Creek and assign them to Reedy.”

The concern was that Wakeland will be over capacity for the 2015-2016 school year, which is Reedy’s charter year.

“There is no other high school planned to relieve Reedy in the future, which is the reason for a targeted focus to draw the zone as best as possible from the beginning,” Executive Director Shana Wortham said.

According to the Board Meeting minutes, the students in both ninth and tenth grade living in Frisco Trails and Meadow Creek will attend Reedy High school for next school year until graduation. And, as a compromise, the board approved allowing families who (as of Dec. 8 of this year) will have students in both Wakeland and Reedy for three or more consecutive years, choose to stay at Wakeland until graduation.

“The proposal would have Reedy beginning with over 900 students and then reaching an enrollment of 2000 plus in 2019,” Ms. Wortham said.
