Studio UNLMTD blog showcases art for youth

Dreams.
Everyone has them, but not all have the initiative or the motivation to chase them.
Senior Humza Sohail created a collective called UNLMTD last summer with the help of close friends. They now want to make it a place where creatives, as well as themselves, can express their creativity through different art forms such as painting, photography and music.
“For a creative project to work, its got to be backed by a good idea and good talent,” Sohail said. “During high school, I guess I made friends with a lot of good talent, and so when I found my good idea, I knew it was worth pursuing.”
As the name suggests, however, the group members occupy various roles.
“Though I admit I have the ability to manage things and interact with people well, I don’t love the businessman label,” Sohail said. “I feel it distances me from the creative side.”
Humza shares a tight-knit friendship with those involved in his vision.
“The core team is made of my close friends, which means it never feels purely managerial working with them,” Sohail said.
The team has set goals for themselves that they will complete as they gain a larger platform.
“The plan for UNLMTD is to take it nationwide and then worldwide,” senior Colin Christopher said. “We want to make it a household name, a business, a sort of artistic philanthropic patron. Also we hope for it to be a source of income while giving us the skills we need as artists and businessmen.”
Colin and junior Miles Murgerson channel their creativity through the art of music.
“I like music, because it’s an outlet that lets me express myself freely,” Murgerson said. “I can do whatever I want and make it sound like whatever is going on in my head.”
This collaborative group can give artists a platform to show-off their art on social media.
“The group can help all of us in different ways,” Murgerson said. “For me, it gives me a platform to showcase my talent easily and to distribute it to a larger amount of people than I would have been able to on my own.”
The content posted on their Tumblr comes from various sources that want to share their work with others.
“The site really is user generated, so it depends on how much content we have at the moment,” Sohail said. “As we’ve begun to find our groove and work on other long-term content, we post every other day, with a music release about every two weeks.”
Junior Michele Hamiri has been featured on their website through photography.
“I think that is a really cool thing that they made a site that connects local artists and showcases their talents,” Hamiri said.
This brand is just getting started and Humza does not want to get too ahead of himself.
“Plenty of kids have big dreams that crash, because of real life situations, and I’m not here to say I’m any better than them,” Sohail said. “So I like keeping things practical, and trying to inject a sense of humor into it all, while getting to work with talented people I love.”
