President Ciara Boniface and Shaizah Hasan launched the school’s first Film Club on Dec. 10, where they introduced the club objective to members.

“Film Club will teach students a different way of viewing movies,” Sponsor Daniel Price said. “They will pay attention to new things such as: different camera angles, lighting and various colors that are being used.”

The charter members have several goals for this school year.

“The overall objective of the club is to help students grow and expand their love for films and help them decide if they really want to pursue a film career,” Hasan said. “We want the club to be a group that potential film students can join to talk about what they love about films”

Film Club will collaborate as a group and make their own short film by using the C2G initiative as part of their story.

“The C2G short film will compose of three students from Heritage all, from different backgrounds, and it will show the process they did or are doing to graduate high school,” Boniface said. “We want to highlight these students to show kids that are willing to do anything for a good education and that it truly pays off in the end.”

Principal Mark Mimms endorses C2G so students can see that graduation is attainable.

“We want the C2G film to be placed in various documentary film festivals once it’s completed, and hopefully in the UIL 2016 competition,” Boniface said. “I think it would be a surreal moment not only for Mr. Mimms, but for the entire student body to see a club that created a short film together.”

Junior Chinaza Agbor sees value for students who join Film Club.

“I believe analyzing films builds critical thinking,” Agbor said. “This critical thinking will enable discussions among members of film club, revealing how exactly they interpreted a piece of art.”

The next meeting is Jan. 14 at 4:20 p.m. in C207.
