District Communications announce parent survey results

The Communication Department released the results for the District Parent Survey on Oct. 9, getting the parents perspective on education in the district.

It was very tiring sifting through over 6500 responses, that’s 24 percent of our households,” Assistant Director of Community Relations and Marketing Jamie Driskill said.

The survey was created to get a better understanding on learning in Frisco through the parent’s opinions, and the feedback is taken into consideration for future business decisions.

“The communication department works together, looks at major programs and focuses on key areas,” Mr. Driskill said. “We’ve added an app and are more into social media recently so we want to know what the parents think about it.”

The District Priorities List is a section of the survey that asks parents to list what they think should be priorities in school.

For the list, I found it intriguing that technology use was so far ahead of other seemingly important topics taking the number two slot,” Mr. Driskill said.

The list results has brought on new thoughts about what should be most important in schools from not only Driskill, but from a parent who took the survey.

“I picked school safety as my number one because of prior problems in our schools.” parent Monica Snell-McElwain said. “Drug overdoses and gun safety. I don’t think its a huge concern but it is at the top of my list to make sure they’re safe.”

Ms. Snell-McElwain feels as if Frisco’s education is benefiting from survey’s like this, and that parent’s voices are being heard.

Superior education should be the emphasis in FISD because it’s needed. I think FISD provides good education, but it could always be better,” Ms. Snell-McElwain said.
