Journalists take home national, state awards in November
The Print and The Tribute win Best of Show at JEA/NSPA National Convention
The Print Newsmagazine’s issue “Down to Earth” won First Place Best of Show in newsmagazine special edition and The Tribute 2019 Yearbook won Third Place Best of Show in small yearbooks Nov. 23 at the National Scholastic Press Association awards at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, D.C. This was the first volume and issue for The Print as the newsmagazine staff began its first class this semester.
Several journalists also took home individual awards in JEA’s National Student Media Contest:
Josh Whalen, Excellent Award in Feature writing
Avery Braune, Superior Award in Yearbook Copy Sports Writing
Lonna Larsen, Excellent Award in Yearbook Theme Layout Design
Gabriela Mendoza, Honorable Mention in First-Year Photo
Aylah Brodersen, Honorable Mention in Photo Story
Beau Warrington, Excellent in Portrait Photo
Several students also won awards at the Association of Texas Photography Instructors Fall Contest Nov. 16. The contest saw 6,954 entries from California, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas and Canada.
