What Heritage cheerleaders do for the school
Our cheerleaders cheer for the athletes at all of the games, makes posters for themed pep rallies and make the student body peppy.
“They work so hard I think that’s something that people miss. They have practice before school, during the week and we have it during school and then they have games especially our JV cheerleaders are cheering for varsity,” Coach Jessica Seay said.
“We don’t put stuff together at the last minute we actually think about what we are doing so that everything can run smoothly and we put a lot of hard work in what we do,” junior Talia Wilson said.
The cheerleaders work their hardest to get over obstacles that are in the way.
“I know last year when we had the blackout pep rally and some things happened…it made everybody who put in that time and effort feel defeated and discouraged,” Coach Holly Huffhines said.
Some students feel the cheerleaders need recognition.
“I mean people don’t know but cheerleading is a sport it requires physical capability and practice,” sophomore Amber Plemons said.
“I feel like they need more recognition than they get because they put signs all over the school, try to cheer at every event, and make the theme banners that go around the school and they are exhausted by the end of the week,” Coach Huffines said.
Despite the challenges and the hard work that they do for the pep rallies and to get the student body pumped, they try to achieve the goal of having confidence in themselves.
“The goal is to increase the girls’ confidence, team bonding and building each other up and encourage each other making the girls feel like a family,”Coach Huffhines said.
